These beneficial microbes work in a symbiotic partnership with the plants, improving the availability of water and nutrients to the plants root that is essential for growth and health. This in turn reduces the amount of feed and water required to produce fantastic results.
KEY RULES OF USING COMPOST TEAS IN YOUR HOME GARDEN:
Compost:
Using the right compost is essential. You can buy a Compost Starter Kit that contains Highly Biological and Tested compost or you can use your own, If you use your own you must make sure it is aerated compost that has finished composting in 6-8 weeks.
It must have got hot enough 65oC - to kill any pathogenic fungi. It should left for long enough for beneficial fungi to develop. Ideally you should have each batch analysed for the components of the soil food web to make sure you are not brewing dirty water.
Remove Chlorine from water:
Chlorine Kills micro-organisms IF YOUR WATER SUPPLY IS FROM TAP WATER AND CHLORINATED TURN ON THE AERATOR TO CIRCULATE THE WATER UNTILL ALL SMELL OF CHLORINE HAS DISAPPEARED BEFORE BEGINNING BREWING.
This should take approximately 15-20 minutes. IF DILUTING THE COMPOST TEA BEFORE SPRAYING MAKE SURE THE CHLORINE HAS DISAPPEARED FROM THE WATER IN THE TANK. This may take 24 hours.
Give the Microbes time:
When you have added the compost, starter nutrients and turned the pump on it is essential to give the microbes time to multiply. As a rule of thumb 20 - 24 hours is enough time and the mixture will be ready for use. The liquid compost should give off a pleasant casserole type smell.
